Election 2008 Study Group with Dr. Kilburn

Election 2008 Study Group with Dr. Kilburn

A 1-credit independent study for fall semester 2008. This course will meet hourly, once a week, as a reading group. Each week we will discuss one article on elections, public opinion, and voting. Participating in the group would be a great way to learn more about our discipline's contribution to knowledge of the emerging themes of the 2008 election, such as race and candidate evaluation, war and public opinion, economic anxiety, retrospective voting, and the new news media, among others. While the focus will be on U.S. politics, we will occasionally study elections from a comparative perspective, addressing questions such as why turnout among young voters has declined, not just in the US, but throughout western democracies.

The reading group would be helpful for students planning to enroll in PLS 300 and 341. The group is open only to political science majors. Space is limited. If interested, contact Professor Kilburn (kilburnw[at]gvsu.edu).

Careerfest November 4

From the Office of Career Services:

Careerfest will be taking place on Tuesday, November 4, 2008. The event will be from 2:00-6:00pm at the DeVos Place convention center, and we expect over 150 organizations representing nonprofit, business/industry, government and healthcare to be in attendance.

The purpose of Careerfest is to provide our students with the opportunity to learn more about career options, and investigate internship/co-op and post-graduation employment opportunities, by bringing them together with organizations who value the terrific education you provide our students. It is our commitment to provide quality and impactful co-curricular activities for our students that will compliment the work you are doing with them in your programs. Careerfest is an opportunity for students to engage in self reflection and dialogue with employers while connecting their educational endeavors with applied experiences and careers.

If you have questions, please contact our office at 331-3311 or email us at career@gvsu.edu. We look forward to your participation in this important event for the GVSU community!
